Bernard “Larry” Smith

A special child was born on March 25, 1954 to the late Naomi Justina Smith. He was the eldest of three children and she named him Bernard Larry. Larry was baptized, nurtured and confirmed in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he was a faithful member until his death.

He received his education at the Abilities Unlimited School now Stapleton Primary School. Larry loved attend-ing school, especially with his friend Perry Jarvis. After completion, Larry was able to enter the work field. Larry was a man who wore many hats.

He was employed at the Environmental Health Department and as-signed to the East Street Post Office. He also worked in the evenings filling oxygen tanks in the Maintenance Dept. at The Princess Margaret Hospital. How he did it we would never know. Additionally, Larry also found time to work at Delta Airlines early in the mornings.

Larry was a quiet gentleman, a devoted worker and faithful parishioner. When it came to his church, he was a man of many auxiliaries. He was a member of the Men’s Ministry, Knights of Columbus, Hospitality Ministry, Altar Server, Honorary Member of The Ladies Auxiliary and he assisted whenever aid was needed. Larry was present and lent a hand with just about every function that the church held until he took sick on November 30th, 2012. He was later admitted to hospital on December 5th, 2012 and remained there until his demise. On December 11th,2012 at 10:01 am, this faithful servant of the Lord quietly slipped away into the arms of his Master.
