A TIME TO BE BORN
On April 12th, 1941 a beautiful baby girl was born to the late Cecil Claudius (Sir Caan) and the late Glendina Boyd (nee King) on Thompson Lane off East Street on the island Of New Providence. She was the eldest of thirteen children. She was christened in St. Agnes Anglican Church.

A TIME TO LEARN
Gladys was schooled at St Hilda’s Grammar School, Bosfield Johnson’s School, Southern Junior and Senior Schools, Eastern Senior School and the Nassau School Of Business. She studied typing, shorthand and bookkeeping under the guidance of Ms. A. Mortimer obtaining certificates in the said-subjects. She studied Home-Care Nursing at the Dodd Institute Florida in 1979 and Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in Boston Massachusetts from 1979-1985. At the age of 50, Gladys obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration at the Trinity College and the College Of The Bahamas.

A TIME TO WORK
Gladys was employed at the Coral Harbour Club, Lyford Cay Club, The Loft House Club, The Junkanoo Club and Bethell-Robertson Company Ltd. On October 6th, 1965 she joined the Public Service and was employed at the General Post Office Department, retiring in October, 1995 after 30 years of Exemplary Service. She established a small nursery for which she raised several of her nieces’ children, friends and neighborhood children.

A TIME TO LOVE
On June 28th, 1964 Gladys married the Love of her life, the Late Bernard Irvin Roberts at the St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church. This couple was received into the Christ Church Cathedral on that following Sunday, by the Late Dean Ellis. Both Gladys and Bernard was blessed with five children.

A TIME TO WORSHIP
Gladys attended Christ Church Cathedral from the age of eleven, was instructed for confirmation, but at her mother’s request she was confirmed at St Agnes. Gladys held the distinction for many years, as being the youngest member to the Cathedral’s ACW serving as Secretary to that organization. She along with “Teenie” Jones represented the Cathedral’s ACW for many years as a model in St Mary’s ACW “Autumn Leaves” Fashion shows.
She was a founding member of the Boys Choir Parents Committee, member of the Coffee Hour Hostesses Group 6, the Ladies Choir and a member of St Dominic Cell. Gladys was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the Naomi Chapter No.3 Independent United Order of Mechanic Western Hemisphere Inc where she served as Past Secretary and Treasurer. 

 A TIME TO DIE
On October 9th, 2016, Gladys was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital via the ambulance in the wee hours of Sunday morning and subsequently passed away that afternoon at 1:30p.m.  She completed her journey here on Earth and went on to Eternal Rest.
