On December 6th, 1937 a beautiful baby girl was born to the late Delphene and George Hanna. She was given the name Brenda Inez Hanna, and was the first of three children. She was one of the fourteen  students who started Holy Name Catholic School and completed her education a Bimini All Age School.

Brenda “Mama B” as she was affectionately called, was employed at several hotels including Paradise Point, Brown’s, Blue Waters, Fisherman’s Paradise and Cat Cay Yacht Club where she worked as a cook. She often worked two jobs to make sure her family was comfortable. Mama B had a special gift of making everyone feel loved and welcomed at her home. Her many adopted children are a testament to this. Her house was truly one with an “open door.” For the latter years of her life Mama B has been a Tourism Ambassador as a vendor in the Bimini Straw Market; where she served the many visitors and locals with pride. And though some days were slow she’d take it in stride saying “I aint  worrying about nothin…..what God gat fa’ me is fa’ me…”

She was a faithful member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church and her favorite scripture was Psalm 91:1 which says “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Mama B fought her battle with illness for over ten years and on October 23rd, 2016 with as in her words “her bags packed” the Lord called her home to take her rest.  Mama B paved the way and left her legacy; for this, and her life we say, “All thanks and glory be to God for this our Precious JEWEL!!
